BUILDER/DEVELOPER

Most people use the Real Estate section. Mary uses blueprints.
Mary Guerrero-McDonald knows what it’s like to search for the perfect place to live. As a longtime Austinite, Mary has seen Austin grow from a funky college town to a bustling city. As the heart of the city began to grow, so did the need for luxurious downtown living. Mary decided she wanted to live downtown, with neighbors who shared her tastes and lifestyle – with a penchant for politics and an active social life. After looking at dozens of residences, she realized that there just wasn’t a downtown condominium community that would do.

So she decided to build her own.

Storied land.
In order to build her dream home, Mary needed a place to build it. After zeroing in on the 1701 Lavaca property, she began the process of entitling the property. It turns out that the original owner of the property was a woman – a woman who had purchased the property before women were allowed to own property in Texas. The entrepreneurial woman used her initials, instead of her name, on the original property deed. Like Mary, she had a hyphenated name, very unusual at the time. Leave it to a Texas woman to break the rules just because she wanted something done right.

Building Austin from the ground up.
Long before the La Vista on Lavaca project, Mary made her mark as a builder. She has a construction background and over 25 years experience as a commercial general contractor. Her company, Guerrero-McDonald & Associates, has handled many projects and renovations around Austin, including schools, office buildings, the Palmer Events center and numerous parts of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Mary prides herself on her commitment to the construction industry in Austin and takes care to use local suppliers and vendors on every project whenever she can.

A career with its foundation in leadership.
Mary is a past president of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and has served on the Construction Advisory Committee for eight years -- as Chairperson for four of those years.  She has also co-chaired the City of Austin Minority Advisory Procurement Committee. Mary serves on the Local Regulatory Committee for BOMA Austin and is the President of BOMA PAC and of the Construction Industry Alliance.
